Every District Accountable Campaign

In February 2027, the State House will once again write its own rule book.

It’s clear that the current system is not working: despite having the nation’s third-largest Democratic supermajority, Massachusetts remains the least transparent state legislature in the country and has consistently low legislative output.

Massachusetts has tremendous potential to lead the way in pioneering good policy during this moment of profound democratic backsliding. We must make it clear that we cannot afford to wait any longer. Here at Act on Mass, our theory of change holds that the most effective way to achieve this is through building strong grassroots coalitions.

The goal of the Every District Accountable Campaign (EDAC) is to foster a healthy relationship between constituents and their legislature, one in which legislators feel more accountable to the people they represent than to political leadership. Achieving this means showing up, loudly and consistently. This campaign also aims to empower future leaders in our state and to help create a culture on Beacon Hill where they can successfully advance the policies they care about most.

The EDAC is a continuation of our previous organizing, namely Transparency is Power and The People’s House. With last session’s rules change, we proved that grassroots organizing can (and does!) make a huge impact. But there’s still a ways to go, and we need every legislator in every district to show up for the people they represent.

Organize with us in your district!

This fall, we are launching district organizing teams in preparation for the rules vote! There are as follows:

  • #1 – North Shore
  • #2 – South Shore
  • # 3 – Western Mass
  • #4 – Central Mass
  • #5 – Boston

If you’ve been looking for ways to enable our legislature to pass critical legislation: look no further! You can fill out our volunteer form to be put in touch with other volunteers in your area.

We are currently in the process of developing each action team, including appointing Regional Organizer Leads. You can read about what this role entails here, and email our Organizing Director Isabel Harper at isabel@actonmass.org to apply.
