How does Act on Mass make endorsements?
Act on Mass aims to endorse candidates for state house and senate that will be true champions for transparency, accountability, and democratic reform in office. Our endorsement process began with putting out a wide call for applications to our volunteer endorsement committee, which met first in March 2026. The endorsement committee finalized the Act on Mass endorsement questionnaire. Once the questionnaire was approved by the Act on Mass board of directors, we launched a wide call for endorsements.
Questionnaires that were submitted by candidates were then read and evaluated by the endorsement committee, with the open-ended question section anonymized to maximize objectivity. Each questionnaire was evaluated based on set criteria, considering the candidate’s stated campaign plan, commitment to progressive and good-government positions, and personal dedication to transparency and accountability. Based on the endorsement committee’s evaluation of these three sections, some candidates were then invited to interview.
Interviews were conducted by members of the endorsement committee, using a consistent list of questions. Then, based on the outcomes of the questionnaire and interview, the endorsement committee made a final recommendation to the Act on Mass board of directors. We were thrilled to endorse eight candidates this cycle who we believe will be true leaders in the movement for transparency at the state house!
