Life Without Parole

What this bill would do:

• Ends mandatory minimum sentencing that forces life without parole for certain crimes
• Reduces the incarcerated population, freeing up funding that is desperately needed for essential public services like hospitals and schools
• Is the first step to reorienting our criminal justice system away from punishment and toward rehabilitation

Why we need it:

There is countless research which supports that rehabilitation efforts are more beneficial to society than punishment following a crime. While Massachusetts has centered this approach with emerging adults, other incarcerated individuals are still facing a criminal justice system that centers punishment over rehabilitation efforts.
